Hey there! New Miata owner, Black 93 Miata with 145k miles! Proper LA resident! I have yet to get my Miata properly looked at because I am SO wary of mechanics and don't know of a trusted one. Honestly, I'm more prone to trust a fellow Miata lover to look my car over and give me some tips suggestions. I also, desperately need to fix my horn and would LOVE help with that. If anyone is eager to help a fellow Miata drive, would be happy to do a trade of sorts / compensate for some help!

Hi - former 1995 NA owner here, bought it new 30 years ago on St. Pat's day in 1994, lost it three years later in an unfortunate event and moved on to restoring British cars.
Thinking of buying and restoring an NA at some point. Curious on the availability of parts, particularly the plastic and foam based ones that tend to be irreplaceable on any 80's and up model car. Things like the padded dash tops, original seat covers, and vinyl bits. Are these things readily available in OEM or "good reproduction" format, and what are the best source(s)?
Since all of that factors into the decision of what car to buy at what price, I appreciate any advice you all have.

Hello Bob Amos,
I am David DeMarkey. I own a 2015 Club edition NC with the Power Retractable Hard Top and an automatic transmission. I am also the Treasurer of the Mt. Hood Miata Club.
From your experience with British sports cars, you're probably familiar with Moss Motors, Ltd. They also have a Moss Miata division which they opened when they saw that the interest in lightweight British sports cars was waning. Moss offers an extensive range of accessories, performance pars and replacement and restoration parts for all 4 generations of Miatas. I have also heard of a salvage yard in California that specializes in Miatas.
I suggest you visit the Moss website, MossMiata.com and look at what all they offer. You'll find it's heaviest on the NA and NB end of the car's evolution so, I'll be surprised if you don't find that they offer everything you could want to restore whatever generation MX-5 you're interested in restoring. As far as the soft parts go, my MIata is 9 years old now all of the time that I have owned it, it has been outside and the only parts showing weathering are the inside rearview mirror and the plastic, upper brake light cover. So, you stand a good chance of not having to replace any of the interior pieces that Moss Miata doesn't supply.
Best of luck in your rejoining the light* side of the LWS** world.
Your,
David DeMarkey
* Mazda doesn't use Lucas electrical parts and provides Japanese reliability, durability and overall build quality.
** Light Weight Sportscars, as Mazda referred to Project 279 that resulted in the NA Miata.

Hi Bob.
I own a 1990 which I purchased about a year and a half ago. I have never had any difficulty locating parts for my 34-year-old car; after all, there are about a million Miatas out in the world so Mazda continues to supply everything needed. Moss Miata is the most reliable source of genuine OEM parts and good-quality after-market products. They can be a bit pricey but do have frequent sales. I have also had great luck on Ebay and swap meets/car club events.

New member here.
Just picked up a 2002 SE in Titanium Gray with brown leather package and OEM alarm./Bose head unit and amp. Only 21756 miles on her.
Body in pristine condition as is interior. Top is the original black vinyl with glass rear window and defroster, in excellent condition. AC/ heat all work nicely as does the engine and 6 spd.
After driving it home 500 miles i am going thru the whole car, slowly.
So far I have replaced both rear axles ( torn cv joint boots) replaced all the brakes ( it has the sport brakes) with Powerstop Z23 pads and did a complete brake fluid flush with RT 660 fluid. I also sourced a missing splash sheild that goes from the radiator to the engine to improve the cooling ar flow.
I flushed the power steering fluid several times ( dark and nasty ) and just completed a differential fluid change as well as a 6 spd manuall transmission fluid change. That Diff fluid was the darkest I have ever seen !!
I have an appointment next week to get a performance alignment done at a comptetnt shop that specializes in Miatas and Spec Cup miatas
Next on the list is to do an oil and filter change as well as coolant flush and replace.
I have other items on the to do list as well...replace the crumbled bump stops on the shocks ( after I buy Koni yellows for the car )
Lastly,,, replace the Bose system wit a modern head unit that does Nav and BT using Android Auto.
I previously had 2 Miatas, a 2000 SE 6spd and a 2010 PHRT auto in midnight blue metallic. Shoudda kept the 2000...2010 was a terrrible car that fell apart quickly.

Hi, I have a 91 MX-5 Miata NA. I've owned it for about 20 years. Had it repainted and put a new top on it several years ago and it still drives great. I'm finding out the joys of maintaining a car that the manufacturer doesn't support anymore. Namely, getting reliable parts. Even places that specialize in Miata cars don't have everything I need. It gets very frustrating. My current problem is the dreaded airbag warning light flashing. I've read the info on the forums about this but mine is flashing continuously without any pause. I suspect the issue is the battery back-up but I can't find that tidbit for confirmation. Any suggestions???

Hi All! I'm Jay, the proud owner of a new ND3 club-spec MX-5. Picked it up over the weekend and am very happy so far!
I wanted a big car. My other car is a Bugeye Sprite. This one is more comfortable on long trips.

Hello! This is my new-to-me 1994 M Edition 5-speed that I bought on BaT and received yesterday. I'm still waiting on the title so I can transfer title and get it registered. This is my second Miata - the first was a 1994 5-speed with most of the bells and whistles ("B" package with A/C, ABS, and MSSS) that I owned from 2006-2020. The new one needs a few things but is pretty clean and original.

New member in Vancouver, WA. We purchased an '06 Grand Touring about 5 years ago after moving down to WA from AK. I used to ride a nice Kawasaki Vulcan, but my wife hated it and refused to ride with me, so sold it when we moved. I figured the Miata would be something we would both be able to enjoy, and a lot safer than a bike. So we went to look at this one, took it for a spin with the top down, and she OK'd the purchase. It turns out she doesn't want to get her hair messed up or get too much sun.... So I usually just drive it to Home Depot and back or for short rides. Now and then I can convince her to go for a ride, but it's almost like pulling teeth. It's a great car with only 47k miles on it, and I smile whenever I'm driving it, so for the time being, I'm keeping it!

New member from Northeast Connecticut. On a whim I purchased a 2012 GT two weeks ago. A few rattles but it only had 46k miles on it so I bought it. I’m enjoying getting used, again, to a manual transmission and few amenities in the cockpit.
I’m looking forward to taking some one day road trips in it.
