Here, in Oroville, California, it has dropped to $1.94 for 87 at the
Feather Falls Casino gas station.

I think you are actually referring to the bellows (the accordion thingee
between the AFM and the snorkel side outlet). I was talking about the
snorkel -- at least I thought that's what you're supposed to call it --
the
piece that goes over your radiator where all the air gets sucked into.
<<<<
Speaking of cleaning engines- with 51K miles on my '99, it is
clear that
nobody has ever bothered to clean *anything* under the hood. Which I
find
unbelievable, when it's all new with yellow and black just screaming for
Armorall...
Anyway, much as I hate to, I've got to hit the whole engine with
the cleaner./degreaser
and then hose it off- are there any particular areas to worry about or
avoid? (Besides the
obvious, like drowning the spark plugs in puddles around the head, etc.)
Any help would be appreciated- and if anybody wants the RX-8
insert that came with
R&T this month, just let me know and I'll send it off, the car is just
too damned ugly
for me! And if anybody is interested, in a few days I'll have a report
on how Falken
512's in 205/60 14 work on the car....
-Bill, who couldn't turn down H rated tires at 38 dollars apiece,
despite knowing 'you get what you pay for'....

I just threw a towel over the plugs and wires, literally, and pressure
washed the engine compartment while the engine was idling....
Started it cold, Gumout-ed the hell out of the whole thing as it warmed, and
then Pressure sprayed it off before the engine got hot.
:D now I get to get flamed for doing it wrong, but my engine compartment is
now significantly cleaner than when I bought the '91 2 weeks ago.
Just kept it idling until things were effectively dry. Also put it on ramps
and sprayed underneath while I was at it.
----Then I had to spray the driveway off.
-----Then the sidewalk.
, ----and gutter.
Lots of glop came off.
Anyway, send yer RX-8 stuff my way.

Just like some other things, the RX-8 will become less ugly as you get to
know her...

Yikes! I'm keeping away from pressure washing. I'm glad it
worked for you, but....I usually just
do it by hand with cleaner, rags, and toothbrushes, but this engine is
just too dirty. The one time I
did spray-and-wash, I just used a garden hose. But, as long as you
cover the carburetor, I guess it's
okay. I can't stand to look at it as it is..
I'll get that thing out within a few days. I'll just forward it to
you, should cost you about 50 cents
if I recall.
