You know, I had envisioned plastic coins, not plastic paper.

Cool -- so then it IS in fact quite reasonable to think that the Miata in
question did 160 KPH (sorry that I called it KMH earlier -- just not enough
worldy experience, I suppose). =-) Thanks for letting us know of the
conversion, Jeff. I have noticed that other places know how to convert
their measurements to ours (US), yet for some reason we haven't often been
trained to do the same. I can still remember in 1986 in a high school
chemistry class converting everything I'd learned up to that point into
grams, litres, etc. -- my only beef was that it had not been done SOONER.

They're all MX-5's. Miata is the preferred name in the US. Roadster is
the name in Japan. Up until a year or so ago, it was a Eunos Roadster, now
it's a Mazda Roadster. IIRC there was a problem with the use of the name
"Eunos" so Mazda had to drop it.

On the badging (for US cars) it actually says Miata MX-5 and all my
paperwork and manuals say MX-5 Miata.

OK, I was wrong about the period we've been using plastic currency, it seems
longer, actually 14 years. See here
abcnews.go.com/sections/tech/CuttingEdge/currency990922.html . and
cnn.com/2002/WORLD/asiapcf/auspac/09/23/aus.plasticmoney/ .
Apparently Mexico has also switched to plastic.

Actually, the auto parts store I work at calls them, "Mazda MX-5/Miata" --
so it's probably pretty international to think of them as an MX-5. =-) In
Japan I believe they still call them "Eunos", whatever that translates too,
but it sounds neat!

Just joking there, but you'd better not let anyone know about those

Yeah, he's got the "Fast and the Furious" Miata, complete with illegal blue
fog lights and funky flares that don't match the paint job. AHK! Just
teasing. =-) Personally, I spent all my mad car money on suspension and
exhaust mods, but to each their own. In my opinion, all those nifty little
add-ons just add weight. ;-D

That's 'cause most of the folks you see in parts stores don't really give a rip, and don't know sh*t from shinola, anyway. I learned that from being on both sides of the counter. I will be resigning soon to take better work -- there are a lot of angry customers. Lol. Then again, the pay generally stinks, so I guess, especially among the younger crowd, it's not worth it for some folks to actually read and learn about their job -- and a parts store usually offers training. I went to ASE classes and everything -- it was a blast!

I beleive the reason it was called a "Eunos Roadster" in Japan was
because the exclusive distributor for the MX-5 in that country was
the Eunos dealerships. Mazda Japan allowed them to badge them
appropriately.

MX-5 is the model designation (just like MX-3, MX-6, 323, 626, etc.)
Studies showed MAzda NA marketing that Americans preferred names of
cars instead of model designations, so Mazda NA along with Mazda HQ
came up with the name Miata.

I thought I learned all of this on Miata.net in the FAQ about "What
does 'Miata' translate to?"

Oh, great... the list has a punk kid ricer on it ;)

Just joking there, but you'd better not let anyone know about those
neons that you installed on your Miata ;)

So what on Earth does "Eunos" even mean, then? I've always wondered . . .
probably somebody posted it but I (DUH) didn't notice.

And they know how to make okonomi and eat it with real Kanshi. =-) YUM.

Eunos was the name of the "up market" brand of Mazda, like Lexus and Acura,
neither of which exist in their homeland. The MX-3 was sold in some
countries (Australia being one of them) as the Eunos 30X.

Yeah, he's got the "Fast and the Furious" Miata, complete with illegal blue
fog lights and funky flares that don't match the paint job. AHK! Just
teasing. =-) Personally, I spent all my mad car money on suspension and
exhaust mods, but to each their own. In my opinion, all those nifty little
add-ons just add weight. ;-D

More like our schools are mostly run by crooks whom take our hard-earned tax dollars and pocket the change. I've never seen any sufficient changes in the elementary and secondary school levels . . . and it's getting worse. You being the case in point of course, Ben (KIDDING -- couldn't resist, what with you bragging about your age and all).

BW
every time I walk into the parts places, they look at me funny when I say miata, then I say MX-5, and they say, oh, yeah here it is. Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : explorer.msn.com
