I bought this car a few years ago from a dealer in Connecticut. Having looked for a decent driver car for many months I was first impressed that the dealer had posted over fifty photos of the car including the underside. After requesting more photos of the rust prone areas, I tripped the trigger and bought it with fingers crossed. I figured that buying from a dealer with a good reputation would be safer than rolling the dice with a distant private party. It was worth the couple extra grand to me. The odometer showed 41 thousand miles at purchase and after investigating every square inch I believe this to be original mileage. All mechanical parts and wear point to this. The car came with documentation going back to the late sixties with an unknown period from 1990 to 2002. I think I'm the fourth owner not including the dealer. The documentation shows it purchased used in 1969 and sold in 1990 as a non runner. I believe it sat unused much of that time. The owner through the nineties replaced the sills, dog legs and outer rockers and gave it a re spray in the original color. I contacted the owner prior to myself who had a stroke forcing him to sell this car and a Bugeye to the dealer. He did not do any rust repair and didn't have it painted so this paint job is prior to 2002 and shows no signs of rust or bubbling anywhere. It was re upholstered in the mid 2000's. The floorboards are original and all the supports are unrusted and showing most of the factory paint. A very original car. I don't think the body has ever been off.
This is my third MGA I bought my first in 1972. A roadster I drove as a poor kid for many years. The second was a coupe in 1990. Besides these three MGA I've owned four Morris Minors, an MGB, a 63 Morris Mini Coopes S. And other American iron.
I've been through all the hydraulics, suspension, carbs, cooling, ignition, and lots of cosmetic stuff. The car just gets better and better. It's just what I wanted. Something I can drive while I improve it. Just love this thing.........
