I thought I'd share the progress of my project (94 R,
FMIII).

I built a 1.8L with Pauter rods, JE pistons 1mm
overbore, MBSP, ARP head/main studs, fully ported
head/TB/manifolds/turbo, 99 cams/lifters. I took apart
my tranny and cryo'd the gearset and shafts, and
replaced the 5th gear with RX7 gears as suggested by a
few on the list.

Well, I got everything together and fired her up last
night. Ran super smooth. Took about 10 minutes to get
the TEC2 map tuned for non-boosted under 4k rpms. FYI,
I had to add ~20-25% more fuel to get to the same AFR
as with the stock 94 engine w/ FMIII. So, the
overbore, port work, and cams seem to improve flow
significantly even at the low MAP/low rpm regions.

RX7 part#'s:
5th gear M512-17-611 $98 through mazda comp
counter gear M507-17-308 $66 through mazda comp

I went on the highway, and my cruising rpm's in 5th
gear, 70 mph (indicated), showed 3150 rpm (from TEC2).
These numbers correlate with the calculations I did,
and the equivalent 5th gear ratio of 0.75 as stated by
RandyS.

When I get some time, I will post some pictures of the
gears and some more notes.

Can't wait to finish the break-in period and turn up
the boost!

Bob
