So I got the car out on the road last night (and solved the surging problem,
thank you all) and fiddled around. Initial impressions:

1) it sounds different, a bit throatier. i like this.
2) the turbo itself still sounds like a spinny whizzy thing but on a
slightly larger scale (?). less electric motor-like? now as it spools it
sounds like one spinning thing is being accelerated via some sort of geared
reduction from the power source, i.e. two mechanical parts interacting
rather than just a single spindle.
3) boost response seems no different from before, arguably better at
mid-range RPM
4) power feels stronger but i haven't driven the car in 6 weeks so it's
hard to tell for sure. i had a passenger and didn't notice the "the car is
slower with a passenger" effect for which i was calibrated on the previous
config. Driving in to work this morning without the passenger was entirely
effortless.

Dyno next week hopefully. Results to follow.
