Two subjects:

(1) Yesterday I noted that while my link display showed idling between 850 -
900 RPM, my tachometer dropped to near zero. Out of curiousity I turned
Lambda OFF and the tachometer then mirrored the link RPM display. Any ideas?

(2) I've noted that my exhaust is getting quite buzzy, so I suspected the
downpipe was at the end of its useful life. While under the car, I couldn't
locate a loose or broken weld, but the woven flex section does seem a little more
flexy than I remember. Is this the weak link on the old downpipe, and if so,
has FM's new downpipe corrected this problem? Is there a definite advantage
of the new downpipe?

Thanks,

Jerry aka LGO

July 2003 Link chip. Original 1995 1.8 coils.

Not a chip thing ... just coincidence that it changed with the settings
because it can only be caused by hardware problems if the ign is working OK.
It's probably intermittent wiring (tach wire shorting to ground somewhere)
but it could also be a loose connection or bad part on the ECU board.

As for the buzzy-heat-shield-like sound, I have that too right now w/ my
FM3. It comes and goes. I was told this is somewhat common w/ flex
joints after a while. I have a new one setting on my work bench and
have it welded in place over the winter.
