I was in contact with a list member last night. We were both trying for the
torsen. I asked for MiataMotor's name and the other asked if he could drive
over to pick up the torsen. We both lost contact with the "seller" (HA). I
contacted Gary last night to alert him and found he had another complaint
about the guy. He really couldn't do anything. I sent Gary the eBay url
Richard provided to confirm my suspicion the ad is a scam. I hope no one
got burned.

Last year this guy was working the classifieds and EBay big time.

The debate was if he was military or not since if you could turn him in to
the
military they would fix him where the civilians might not.

Maybe the guy actually has several diffs and just uses the same set of pics.
Happens all the time on eBay when people have multiple copies of the same item
for sale. Though it is always wise to be cautious, even if the Internet was
invented by Al Gore.

Yes, buy why would a guy in Georgia, who is posting an ad in the Miata.net =
classifieds be sending out pictures that he took off an eBay auction based =
out of Florida. Next thing you know he'll be selling swamp-land... ;-)

BTW, since calling his bluff he hasn't bothered to reply to my e-mail, thou=
gh he was most communicative prior to my catching him with somebody else's =
photos...

A friend of mine not, on the PowerList but owns a Miata, was dealing w/this
guy & almost sent him a check but didn't b/c he's wary of those who only
deal with money orders/certified checks. A mutual friend of ours,
unbeknownst to either of us, was dealing with the same guy & was told the
Torsen was being sold to him. Both of my friends decided to compare notes &
I sent them this thread the day it started. They both called this guy's
bluff & haven't heard from him. This is most definitely a scam.

I did the first night the ad was up and Gary said another had complained.
However Gary has no way of proving a scam ad until the actual scam takes
place.

he can create a policy, ehere is he gets a tip, he can ask for a LISTED
phone number, and check it on 411.com or something, using the reverse
lookups. there are other simple and fast checks as well. since only he can
decide to pull and ad, he may wish to offer this as a way of responding to a
tip, and while it may take a few minutes, its better then letting scammers
take over the classifieds...

also, buyers should be more like me. i have an escalating series of checks,
such as whats above, and that determines whether I send a m.o. (almost
never), a personal check, reuest cod, or just stay away...

the decent majority are always willing to comply, and i have never been
screwed yet...
