That's cool, I just use the data for edu-tainment value anyhow. =
Honestly, I probably won't datalog an autocross again anytime soon, as =
it's just too much of a distraction.

Check this out when you get a chance: jspayne.com/io/io.html =
It's just an ActiveX control for I/O input/output, nothing fancy. =
Download & install the demo app to yer laptop and hook it to your Link. =
...And for god's sake, don't write anything to the serial port!! ;-) =
Just look at the data it reads from the serial port. Kinda interesting =
to see the raw data flowing in real time, even though I don't know how =
to translate it. Not sure if it means anything to you..? Can point me to =
a spec doc that explains the data stream or is that a trade secret? I'd =
kinda like to play around with it.

The more I think about it, the more I think real-time data acquisition =
would be incredibly useful and not just a novelty. In a nutshell, it =
would allow your program to react to engine parameters as they occur. =
For example, you could play a wave file when a fuel zone successfully =
auto-tunes (would make one-man tuning a lot easier) or have it bark out =
a warning message when there's knock. Not only that, but it could react =
to some event by implementing a tuning change in the ECU. Ultimately, if =
the data link is fast enough, the logging computer could even provide =
extra off-board ECU functionality, e.g., an additional auto-tune feature =
or an FFT knock sensing module. You might even attach additional sensors =
to the laptop that you couldn't attach to the ECU.

Again, I realize this would require a major restructuring of your =
already excellent software, so just take this as food for thought for =
now.=20

Hi Jerry,

I'm still digesting your suggestions, but in the mean time I was just =
going to point out the speed information in the data log isn't very =
accurate so don't rely on it too much. Ray explained it as the =
mechanical speedo effectively steadies a rather jumpy signal from the =
ECU, but unfortunately the data log contains the jumpy ECU signal.

All the plots are now on one page, so they're easier to compare:
jerry.malsam.com/miata/turbo_miata_autocross_graphs.htm

The first and second runs were on bald tires on a damp surface. Lots =
of wheelspin in general and I bogged the start on both. A friend lent me =
his Toyos for the last two runs. The third run was the best overall and =
had a much better launch. Runs 1 and 3, I stayed in 2nd gear through =
most of the second half, whereas in runs 2 and 4 I downshifted to 1st. =
Also, check runs 1 and 4 about 3/4 of the way through, I nearly stopped =
-- that's a tight corner I was plowing real bad..=20

Anyhow, it's kinda fun to look at em. Wish I had a way to log other =
people's cars. Would be neat to compare plots.
