Lookee here, a post about seats that doesn't ask which ones will fit!
Just got a Corbeau Forza in the car (US-spec '96). Used the standard
Corbeau Miata mounting bracket. Also bought a 5-point harness.
Impressions:
--mounting bracket required minor expanding of mounting holes in order
to line up with car holes. bracket is powder-coated mild steel so this
wasn't terribly difficult, just annoying.
--seat is more upright than i am used to sitting; net result is my head
is higher, though i still fit under the soft top
--even at full travel aftwards, seat does not butt up against bulkhead.
i may re-drill new holes to shift the seat backwards relative to the
slider rails
--bracket includes a one-piece template thingy that lines up with the
four holes in the floor, and two sliding rail bits which attach to the
template. the seat then attaches to the sliding rail bits.
--unlike factory arrangement, the lever to slide the seat back & forth
only acts on one side--there isn't a cable over to another sprung tooth
bit. seat doesn't seem to want to go crooked so i assume this is
adequate.
--seat is *way* more supportive than factory, and commensurately more
difficult to get into and out of. top up compounds fun.
--no long trips yet, so can't report on comfort. i'm a big guy and
intend to start on a hip-reducing fitness plan soon :)
--details: 6'5", 34" inseam, 38" waist, 230 lbs. i fit, but it's
snug. very snug.
--pricing:
seat: $220
bracket: ~$63
extra loop thingies for harness hip belts: $5
harness: $79.95 (Crow 5-point with lever latch mechanism)
got it all from Frey Racing in Mountain View. Could have probably got
seat for cheaper via mail order, but i like Frey and they look after me
with other stuff.
conclusions: way cheaper than some options, works very well.
email with questions.
