Given the topic of plugs, I was talking to Jimmy Hemphil ( the Rock and
Roll doctor ) and he said that he "cleaned" up ignition connections and was
able to re-gap to .040, resulting in sig SOTP estimates for power.
Just wondering what everyone is using for a plug gap ( & boost level ) and
if you are using stock coils or not ?
Thanks - Dan
PS Happy Father's Day to all the Father's on the Power List - let us know
what Miata goodies you got !

Those comments about ignition cleanup are valid. I wonder how many cars
with the stock coil packs experiencing break up under boost have carboned
contacts. I recently had to drive home through the Rockies from an out of
town event, unable to get in boost at all because one of the wells in my
coil pack had carboned up to the point of total misfire. Of course that
takes out two cylinders when it happens -- not pretty when you're trying to
pass a semi on an uphill grade. Luckily, I had a spare coil pack back home.
It was in much better shape but I cleaned it up a bit anyways, put
dielectric grease in the wells and the car runs smoothly again. I wonder if
turbo cars foul these contacts sooner than NA cars because of the additional
ignition load?
Based on the Doctor's experience I'm going to regap to .040 as well and see
how it goes...

I was using .028, 18 PSI Max, Stock Coils and Computer w/ Link Piggy. I
used to run pump gas (100 Octane Unocal Unleaded) or 92 Cheveron
Super. With the 92 Octane I usually would lower the boost to 10-14 PSI.

Hi Dan,
My kids got me this really cool straw hat with a wide brim so I won't get
skin cancer on my face spending all day in the sun at the races. They even
found one with a cord for my chin so it won't blow off on the freeway. What
a great present for Dad.
Thanks Kids,
Tom Graham
