Powerlisters,

I have a 94 FMII, uncharacteristically blew off intercooler pipe at
intercooler intake port. At same time, blew off line that goes to the boost
actuator, for what it is worth. Upon examing it for reattaching, I noticed
an excessive amount of oil coming out of silicone hose. So I remove that
lower pipe from turbo, the upper pipe that connects to that and the turbo and
the intake pipe. the upper pipe had oil, the turbo itself had oil inside,
the intake pipe really didn't have much, just a bit where it connected to
turbo. Of course my first thought was the vent tube from valve cover, but no
oil inside of it (I used white cotton swabs on both ends, inside the fitting
in the intake pipe and the fitting from the valve cover. No oil. In 2000, I
cracked a piston, which in turn pressurized the crankcase and caused oil to
go through that tube into the turbo, but before disassembling, I took off the
tube and no exhaust, or air was coming from the valve cover tube. So my next
question, one I don't want to have answered is, could this be from the turbo
itself? I am not producing any abnormal smoke, just the usual at full
throttle. Any ideas on where to look farther to exam the turbo for this
leakage.

The motor has approx. 5000 miles since rebuild, the turbo itself has 10k max,
I am running 12 lbs. boost and I am using the 323 GTX pcv valve. Saddly
enough, the old girl had just a few days earlier, helped me humbled two
gentlemen in an Audi S4 and I just hate seeing her imobile.

I appreciate any suggestions.

If it's not coming from the valve cover vent then the only other place it
could come from is the compressor seal in the turbo. That wouldn't cause
smoke like a bad turbine seal.

Kirk,
Not unusual to see *some* oil in those pipes, but definitely shouldn't be a
lot. Are you actually seeing any oil consumption? Possible oil drain hose
routing?
