That was the big change from SEER 8 to 10.? Adding a capacitor to the compressor and fan to minimize the startup load.?

The are suseptible to blowout when there are brownouts.? In year 2 of our 10 year AC system the capacitor blew out during a brownout (recognizable?usually by the puffy convex top).? I didn't know it at the time so I called a technician.? $90 for a servicecall and $50 for a replacement capacitor was cheap education as I then?purchased a dozen replacement capacitors on ebay for $5 and have been pulling from inventory about every 2 years as we get brownouts.

My?neighbors always wonder why we're the first one back up and operational after a thunderstorm when they have to wait in a sweltering house for the next day when?a tech can come out.
