I chanced upon one while cruising on the freeway. It was a nice yellow one.
I accelerated as he approached from behind, then I lifted to let him pass.
Then I saw the Cobra emblem. Uh-oh. When the road opened up, he gunned
it. I chased him, and I was a bit surprised that I started gaining on him.
I had to feather the gas so as not to kiss his bumper. He then had to weave
between two cars, and I didn't think it was a great idea because I couldn't
really see around him, so I slowed a bit, then I chased him again. At this
point he had to exit. He then laughed at me and gave me a thumbs down. He
must've thought his car was quicker.

How fast are those things?

Cobra's aren't that fast unless they are fixed up alot. A Z28 will give it a run for its money. I've heard alot of bad things about Cobra's, but i don't own one so i really can't give accurate info, just what i hear. If your boost was at 12psi, you would have a big grin walking by him seeing a very surprised look on his face :)

It depends; Mustang Cobras in the current body style have gone from the
~235HP 302 in the 1993 timeframe to the ~320 HP in the new Modular V8.
My in-laws have both a 1994 Cobra and a 1995 GT Convertible and I don't
think the Cobra is much faster. From what I understand, these cars are
available with different rear end ratios which can affect performance
quite a bit.

My Miata was slightly faster as a non-stock Corbra in the 1/2 mile Front
Striaght at Summit Point. His Mod's where rear-end and chip plus
exhaust. Yes the rear-end change effects the top-end but it's still a
140+ mph car with those mod's. Plus my car was missing badly at 14-15
psi and top-end was about 12 psi (mine car BTW is a 92). Now is running
17-18 psi of boost. And will see how that work's cause I am thinking
that I will be doing three daze's at Summit Point this weekend. It's a
good thing I have two cars I can break!!!

The last time I was at the dragstrip (last year) I was up against a
Cobra (mods unknown). My launches are not the best, I would like to keep
the car running for a while... so he took me off the line, but it was
precious to see the look on his face as I drove past him as we went
down...

That same visit I was paired against a brand new Camaro SS - the guy
just took it off the lot and was telling me how one of the "Hot Rod"
magazines just took an SS off the lot and did a 12.5 quarter with it. He
was expecting to do the same. I left him so bad he quit before the 1/8.

Yes, I like to street race, but really crushing somebody's sprit when
they brag it up is even better!

Todd

I've never seen a normally aspirated Mustang I couldn't beat. Fear a 351
with a Paxton.

Normally Mustangs with a modular V8 use a very poor flowing 2 valve head.
Tom has a 2 valve head that he's flowed and it is a piece of crap. Good
design perhaps for manufacturing but hopeless for getting power. The Cobra
has the 4 valve head from the Lincoln. Much better head and it also has an
IRS. I've chased several and always could catch them. I've even been dead
even 0-60 with the Lincoln while driving my VW pickup.

I played with one on an open 4 lane and did not have any problem pulling
away as speed increased. Also a bit quicker off of the light. Was pretty
close and I am not sure how hard he was driving.

RWHP for the Cobra was about 254 HP 256 Ft/lbs torque
RWHP for a 5.0 was about 190-200 HP 200 Ft/Lbs torque

Uncorrected from my dyno, same night.

There's a dyno run for one on my site. This was one of the ones that didn't
have the advertised hp, before going back for the factory mods.

All cobras are SVT. You probably saw a roush or something. Inbetween 2000
and 2001 saw some badging changes (as in one does not have SVT badge).
