Has anyone figured out what (if any) ARP part number will fit a miata? I've
got the dimensions that I need (10mmx1.25, 1.2" threaded in block, 1.8"
shank, ~3.5" overall), but I figured I'd ask here before I bug the guys at
ARP tomorrow.

Has any need been established (or even suggested) yet? Those folks that
have spun bearings at high hp levels ... were they rod or main bearings?

All were rod bearings IIRC

Rod bearings are, and will continue to be, the weak point. I'm hoping to
alleviate that somewhat with very tight tolerances on the big ends and
higher oil pressure. That said, I plan to run 9k or so along with higher
boost, so I don't want to find out the hard way that the main caps are the
next weak point. Studs are likely overkill, but $100 or so is cheap
insurance, IMO.

Assuming you already have a girdle (MBSP)?
I'm eager to hear more about your plans for
high boost *and* 9K. Will this motor be at the
next open house?

On all the motors I've taken apart the mains were always fine. The rod
bearings always look horrible. They are the first to go by far.

Jeremy,
You should consider the '2001 main cap girdle/windage tray. or the one from
a Kia Sephia.

It's actually on all FWD BP's (Escort GT, Protege, Tracer, Sephia, etc). I
got one off a '92 SOHC BP. You have to drill a new hole for the RWD oil
pickup but otherwise I can't tell any other differences.

Next question for you Randy. I've got a BP here that is supposed to have
come from a SOHC Protege. Cast crank, single counterweights, weighs 26 lbs,
vs 36 for Miata BP. Have you seen that crank?

Mine was the #3 rod bearing, while the 2 closest main bearings showed signs
of getting ready to spin...
