I boiught a set of low mileage take-out suspension bushings from someone who
upgraded. Now I have to get them in. The car is off the road and both
subframes will be coming out for mods and some maint. One machine shop
quoted me $5/each bushing each way, so its $10 per bushing basically unless
I get ambitious and press them out myself somehow. But anyway it would be
$220 if not. No idea if thats a lot or not a lot.
Also, has anyone had them done on the car? I will have to get an alignment
afterwards anyway so wondering how much a shop generally costs to do the
complete labor on the car.

It takes me about 10 minutes per bushing to change after getting the
control arm off the car. $220 doesn't sound bad to me.

Just installed Super Pro bushings myself. It isn't that hard technically
speaking but alot of physical work. I think $220 for a shop to install them
is a great deal. Thats only about 3 hours of shop time at normal rates
around here. I took significantly longer than that.
They aren't hard to press out. I used a "3 in 1 Ball Joint Tool" bought
from Harbor Freight for $40. Didn't even have to separate the balljoints.

Chris,
I've changed 3 sets, and if you want to get the tools together and spend
about half the day in your garage, then you can do it. I have a 12 ton press
and a great group of buddies that are not happy unless somebody's car is
being worked on. If you are alone, it can be a chore. It's always fun here.

Having also just installed Superpros myself, I'd pay $220 for somebody else
to do it.
It's a LOT of work. It's dirty, tiring, and I ached for a couple days
afterwards.
Used a balljoint tool from Autozone (free borrow), and an electric impact.
It would have been easier with an air impact that would proabably way 1/3
what the electric did.
Took about 10 hours, I guess. I would expect about 6 hours next time.

My thought would be why pay 220 dollars to install used bushings?? Low
mileage or not. Remember they have been removed from the car by force and
might have some damage.

yeah but thats $220 with arms OFF the car, which is 1/3 the work...
i almost want to just take the car and have it done but i have to decide now
as the whole car is comning apart for other things. if it was just a
standalone job then i'd prob have my alignment resource do the whole
bushing/align in one shot.
as far as the bushings i got, they are in excellent shape. although if
someone can convince me that poly bushings dont squaeak or wear faster then
i may buy those to avout wheel hop which i am fighting...

My experience was that some of the removed bushings had some material
shaved from the OD as they came out. I wouldn't worry much abour
polyurethane bushings on a second install but would be leary of rubber.

My thought would be why pay 220 dollars to install used bushings?? Low
mileage or not. Remember they have been removed from the car by force and
might have some damage.

Poly bushings won't squeak if they're lubed thoroughly. As far as I've
heard, they never wear out since poly doesn't oxidize like rubber over time.
You won't be sorry you did it, I love my Superpros!

Well, if you brought the car to FM it would be 6 hours of labour - $450.
That's with us disassembling the suspension.

Has ANYONE paid for new bushings to be put on completely by a shop? I wonder
what the labor cost was?
Thanks in advance

I had a shop do it. They charged me about $350. It took them a day
and a half along with putting in a Torsen (swapping it into my '93).
