hi,

i decided to follow the list's advice and put a new belt on my newly rebuilt
motor and super charger and tie the bypass open to see if the rings will
seat after a few thousnad more mile hoping that will stop the massive oil
loss fromthe seals (i guess the blower i forcing air past the rings and out
every seal in the new motor).

is there an easy way to hold the bypass open? i have it open with three
ty-raps but it does not look very secure.

tia,
peter

Remove the vacuum hose from it, and plug up the hose so you don't have
a vacuum leak.

I'm confused. It's the vacuum that holds the bypass open so removing the
vacuum is going to let it try to close.

Please don't shoot the messenger but if you've really been blowing high-boo=
st combustion products past the unseated rings then the rings may very well=
have become annealed by the heat. If so they won't have enough springines=

Oop! You are right, I don't know what I was thinking!

I would use wire ties or remove the SC belt.

Per Tom at FFS, I am consider re-plumbing my bypass to the vacuum
distribution block instead of the intake so the bypass will no longer
see boost. It just needs to see atmospheric pressure to close.

I have gone through 2 bypass actuators this year, blowing out the
diaphragms. This should eliminate the positive pressure from the unit.

Of course, this does not solve the original question.

It is just a junction block for tapping into the vacuum. FFS kits come with one.

Here is detail on the proposed change:

This was the first motor I ever rebuilt, a '55 Chev.V8. I was young and im=
patient and was driving it full throttle after the 1st 20 miles. 10K miles=
later the rings still hadn't seated so I took it apart again and found the=
problem. I was blaming the ring mfgr until my dad explained it to me.

I thought the JRSC was already set up that way? The bypass is plumbed in be=
tween the throttle body and the supercharger inlet. That's how the Uber wor=
ked too.

Read the fine print. It's an FFS system Ken is talking about. We learned
the same lesson with the old FMIII systems, which used the magnusson
bypass valve. The diaphragm doesn't like to see boost.

Only with a 600 grit final hone after boring with a decent deck plate. We =
did 400 back then and didn't know about deck plates ... and lots of low-end=
