I just got back from the dyno at ACS Racing and after a few pulls
adjusting the timing and fueling and adjusting the overlap on the cams I got
the following results.
149.5 rwhp @ 7000 rpm
125.8 ft/lbs @ 5200 rpm
Yep, with my current setup this is almost exactly what was predicted! At
this point the limiting factor is the Borspeed headers which are installed. I
have a set of Bob Boig designed headers waiting to be installed and they
should go on next week. Looking at Stan's results, and from the flow
calculations I did, this should net about 10 to 15 hp on top and not hurt the
bottom end very much.
As it is, the torque curve is nice and flat from about 4.5 k on up with a
absolutely flat plateau between 5000 and 6200 rpm with a gradual roll-off
above that. Torque is above110 ft/lbs from 2000 rpm on up so the bottom end
wasn't hurt at all.
As expected, there is no intake resonance evident, and hence no funky dip
in the curve at 3.5k. Above 4800 rpm this little sucker just pulls!!!
I will be installing a light weight fly wheel this summer and will switch
to solid lifters and stainless valves this fall. This should be good for a
few more HP and make the head much happier at higher rpms.
I'll post the results when Bob's header goes on..........I really do LIKE
this motor!

92 1.8 TEC-II IRTB, Motorola Cup cams, Borspeed header, FM Turbo exhaust,
10.1:1 pistons ( THAT will have to be increased!)

All you need is a 50 shot of Nitrous and you have a real monster!
It would be tempting to do a 100 HP fogger system on that sucker with a
progressive controller... could you imagine the sound it would make!
Great results... it will be even better with the headers and the solid
lifters I am sure.
Where did you get the cams?

That's great, I'm glad to see the motorola cup cams don't give up any
bottom end torque! I hope to try them in the future, probably next season
at the rate the race car is wearing out tires! (One wet event w/2 drivers,
one Pro Solo w/2.5 drivers = 1corded and 3 dead tires). Bob's header
should make a world of difference, you should see 170hp pretty soon!
BTW, what did your true CR calculate out to? I suspect mine is lower than
I thought, as I did not know the dome volume, and was anle to run a 95-96
octane mix with no detonation. Next step is to try 92-93 octane pump gas.
Good luck,
Stan
