Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

R&T article comparing 2000 and 2001 Miata yields a great surprise, braking
performance:

2000 2001

brake 60-0 146 ft 124 ft
brake 80-0 270 ft 215 ft

IMO the braking performance difference above is huge.

The numbers for the '00 suck! Those are mediocre sedan numbers! Do you
think the '00 numbers are non-ABS and the '01 ABS?

I plotted the theoretical G's required to stop a car a certain distance from
different speeds:

The results for the above are:

'00 '01

60 mph .75g .88g
80 mph .72g .91g

These are huge differences! Imagine your cornering g's going from .72 g's to
.91 g's. That's like going from SUV to sport '99!

Why do the '00 brakes suck so bad? On a sports car? Can someone with the R&T
article verify the tires and ABS?

Has anyone tried logging braking distances in their car? I'd like to go try
but I have to find a flat road where I can do it safely.

-Jason
