I'm running out of space on my car to add gauges! I
was thinking of making a few circuits with either
segmented LEDs or bi/tri color LEDs for oil
temperature, fuel pressure, and voltage. These would
fit right under the radio with a minimum of hassle.

What is a safe oil temperature to start running high
boost / high rpms? What temps would be dangerous for
oils? I checked the Mobil1 website, which lists the
flashpoint temperatures, which may be too high
already.

I would like to have a yellow (cold) - green (good) -
red (too hot) LED for oil temps.

For fuel pressure, I was thinking of doing a 10
segment LED, maybe 5 psi increments.. 20-70 psi?

Again, for voltage, a 10 segment LED with 1 V
increments from 5-15 volts

If anyone has input regarding oil temps, I would
appreciate it!

Bob

A couple years ago I was going to use a piezo speaker to tune with an O2
sensor. I liked the idea of a beep instead of a light so it wouldn't
distract the eyes from the road. Was going to add PCB relays to the LM chip
meter I made and switch the peizo on, higher pitch, and warble high pitch
for the lean zones. Seems to me that a buzzer would get your attention
faster (YMMV).
The gauges I had under the radio were only useful to me when parked.

Was driving home yesterday in 95* heat with AC going and taking the crop to
her like a rented pony. Came to a stop light and the temps pegged. Never
even thought to look at the gauge in traffic. 10 seconds with the heater on
brought it back down.
