I have recently had a fuel smell in my trunk, and my research has led me to
believe that topping off and or one of the filler to tank hose/lines could
be bad.
In your case, there must be some, under pressure. You are not able to
identify it?
Try this--or research this, but if you apply a clamp to the return side
fuel, I think It will max out your fuel pressure----the car might die/stall,
but you might also be able to see the leak while sitting still and not
behind the wheel.
Attempt at your own risk. Gasoline can be deadly.
YMMV

Subject: LPC: Fuel lines?
I'm having a time trying to figure out why I'm getting a strong gas smell
in the cabin under WOT- and I thought about cleaning up the
"prototype-ness" of the engine bay- I've ordered a Vishnu fuel rail, and
I'm considering redoing all the fuel hoses (from where the hard-line ends
on the inside of the passenger tire well).
I've taken a look at the Jeg's website, and they have SS braided fuel
line- with their own fittings of course- and I'm thinking about that
(possibly with clear heat shrink on the line so the braid doesn't abrade
wiring and so forth).
Anyone have alternate sources for fuel lines and fittings? The setup that
is in there now is using screw type hose clamps that just were not
designed to hold the small size of the fuel line on the miata.

Good to know I made the right decision in getting the new rail.
As to what Ray said- I've replaced the O-rings on the top of the injectors
(twice), I've replaced the rubber ring like thing at the base, I've added
an extra O-ring to have the fuel rail push the injectors more firmly into
the rubber ring at the base... It is pretty frustrating... I just want
to enjoy the boost!
Can any body explain what the FPR actually does? Lower the fuel pressure
in the rail when vacuum is high? What are the failure modes of the FPR?
Symptoms?

someone on Miata.net having to modify a rail to get it to work, I forked
over the 2.25 C notes for the Vishnu rails. I'm glad I did. Not a hint
of a leak after a straight forward install.
