Hi Everyone,
Here are some differences I found between a 1994
Escort GT BP motor and the Miata BP, plus a couple of
other observations. Thought I'd share them, AFAIK
they're undocumentd. Randy, feel free to add them to
your site (I'd be honored).
-The front pulley uses a V-belt for the alternator
(like the 1.6 Miata B6). The Miata 1.8 BP pulley is
not swappable because...
-The crank nose is different. The pulley bolt
arrangement is similar to the B6 Miata as the pattern
is a rectangle, not a square. Diameter is also
different from the Miata BP.
-The thrust bearings are smaller in radius than the
Miata BP.
-The standard transmission engine uses a smaller
flywheel, same as the B6 Miata.
-The standard transmission engine has the 8.8:1 CR
pistons.
That's all I can think of for now.

This sucks... This means now TECII wheel won't fit to the Crank.. Hmmmm.. Did they change the cranks mid year? Randy?? I have an escort on the way which I *WAS* going to build into a 400+hp drag motor..

Really?? Not a big deal, I can use the ford part number...

Great more spare 1.6 flywheels..

Cool.. Great for lotsa boost..

That's what I did...got the right size from Napa,
Clevite brand (1994 Ford Escort GT).

This doesn't sound good. I did the Escort swap into my 94 miata after I
pretzled the rods and found that the basics were the same but you would
definitly need a 1.8 miata motor to do the swap. I never measured the thrust
bearings so I don't know much about that issue. But I did bolt on my Miata
crank wheel with a Shiv trigger wheel on it and noticed that it wobbles a bit
now. And it did not bend when taking out the motor. I guess this is why.

Still weird man! Randy mentions that the 92+ are the same as the 94+ BP and Danny G just did has done 2 escort swp with a 1995 and 1995 IHRC and the pulleys swapped no pobs.

I think he meant that the tec wheel would not bolt to a escort crank wheel.
I took my miata crank wheel with trigger and bolted it to the escort crank.
I never checked the crank diameter but the keyway did look the same.

The Miata BP front pulley will not bolt to this 94
Escort BP motor. The Miata 1.6 B6 appears to be he
same. Apparently there are some Escort BPs with crank
noses and pulleys like the Miata 1.8 BP.

I swapped my pulley along with trigger wheel onto my escort motor.
Everything went together perfect but I don notice a wobble now. I'll take it
apart and measure the escort crank nose to my actual Miata crank nose.
