FM-II '92...first time up for PA emissions. I am wondering how healthy
my 11 year
old Cat is....probably should have just ordered an FM cat over the
summer but it slipped my mind. Running the
May 16th chip with ITC.

I just completed the quad-injector mode upgrade, and it
seems to be running well. I re-did L2 since it appeared
I was running a bit richer after the upgrade (AF never
dithered anymore, just was green all the time in my
cruising zones from 0-80 Kpa).

I went through the archives, and found a few things
not to do (too lean for example).

I should be able to do it at a friendly shop, who may allow
me an extra try if I fail...so I want to be prepared to
tinker with any settings. I do want to run clean anyway...and
the car seems to run strong and not run too rich from
what I can see on logs and smell in the air.

I plan on turning the boost down to WG (6 psi) for
the inspection. Should I alter any Lambda Targets,
or lean out the idle any more (my idle sometimes
runs rich in the 80's, sometimes dithers nicely
in the 70's. Seems to be the mood its in, but
the idle itself is solid, with ICS in the 33-37% range)

Any tips appreciated.

- b

To be safe you could unhook the wastegate and run NA only. Just a
thought...
I leaned down my idle zones where it would still run smooth. My settings
are for an old chip and 370 inj so they wont be the same.

I /think/ you will be fine with no muss or fuss. Mine was the cleanest car
they'd ever tested and it was a junkyard motor that I just slapped in to
pass testing. New cat too BTW. It's twin brother is now under the car...

Much to my suprise I passed with some rather poor autotuning (my O2
was flakey) and didn't change masterfuel or anything before the test.
Passed fine, only value close to failure was idle HC which was 170
out of an allowed 220...2500 RPM HC was 8 :)

I would give it a go as it's running now and see what happens...might
be suprised :)

I had my car tested with L3 on and master fuel lowered 3 points. I am
allowed 20 ppm for CO and the car tested at 17 ppm with L3 on. It failed
because I forgot to make the check engine light work. The next test, I set
master fuel down 3 points, turned L3 off so that it would not change the
air/fuel closed loop, and the car tested a 4 ppm down from 17.

How would you make the check engine light work with the Link? It's
not required here but would be currious anyways.

The 1.8/Mk2 board needs more parts on it. The Mk1 can do it now but it
uses the light as a shift light.

Here in CA that doesn't work because the inspector is required to
activate the error code sequence which flashes a test code even when
there are no stored errors.

Make sure the car is well up to operating temperature before you go in. I
also go in at a slow time for them so it's almost directly off the freeway
and onto the dyno.

Thanks. I don't really need it yet...if in Feb I fail my emissions
test because of this I'll give you a buzz though :)

Parallel it with the alternator light. There is a wire that you can jumper
behind the glove box. I can give you the specific info if you want. Easier
than taking the dash out.
