Ok, I'm in need of knowledge.. since I didn't originally install the FM
kit, I haven't a clue as how to uninstall that downpipe. I just got a call
offering up a free day at the track (this weekend of course) as long as I
provide instruction, so I'm trying to figure out how to pull that puppy off
and get it welded before Saturday morning....
So, how do you remove that pipe? I assume drop the exhaust, then pull the
protective top plate, then unbolt it.. but what tricks are there to getting
the nuts off and physically getting it out of the car?
I made note that a shorty wrench is required, and possibly even grinding it
thin on the box end, anything else? I plan on soaking the crap (or rust)
out of the bolts with some anti-rust stuff I have ("Mr Wrench".. sounds
impressive) so hopefully they come out easy.
Oh, I think on of the studs may have popped last time, anyone know a size
on those?

8x1.25 studs. Get some spare locknuts, use fresh. If it's a two piece pipe,
you can disconnect the strap connecting the two halves and just pull the
top. Much finagling required to get bottom inside nut when turbo already on
car.

Maybe to late but Maryland Metric was some great exhaust manifold lock nut. These are good cause the 8 mm take a 12 mm wrench vs. the normal 13 mm. The 10 mm nut take a 14 mm wrench size. Makes a lot easier to take off and these stay on.

Wally,
If it is cracked at the top where it is welded to the flange (like mine
was)couldn't a muffler shop weld without removal from the car ? Cost me
$25. I did happen to have it out of the car as the manifold was removed for
EGT probe installation but it could have been done in the car.

It's a bear, I don't know that they could do it. Last fall they had
problems just trying to tack it back together. I'll swing by a muffler
shop and see what they say.
