Okay. It happened. it's all 91 octane in the peoples republic of California.
How much timing (if any) should we pull from the fm2. If so, should it be
across the board or only in certain places?
By the way, even the 87 got worse. ping city in my miata support vehicle.

I am on my second tankfull since the labels changed from 92 to 91. There
was a time when MTBE was introduced to oxygenate the fuel for wintertime.
It was supposed to make the air cleaner but seemed to reduce fuel economy
slightly, and make turbo engines run worse. I didn't notice a big change
but the fuel economy seemed to go down slightly and the J&S knock meter
seemed more active.

Now, MTBE is being phased out (don't know if it's all gone) and it's getting
difficult (read: expensive) to find suitable replacements for octane
boosters which is one of the reasons for MTBE in the first place, according
to the newspaper article I read. So...the engine might just run better on
the new stuff!

Personally, my J&S is quieter now than two weeks ago. It's hard to quantify
without the data downloads available with aftermarket ECUs...but my engine
seems to like the stuff. This is on a '90 w/ Aerodyne @ 10psi. But, who
knows exactly what fuel is in the tanks?
