How big a wheel would have to be used to fit these? Any modifications be needed
to be made to the master cylinder?

After looking at a shop last week that is getting into aftermarket brake
systems for Audis, I find myself wondering about the Porsche "Big Red"
brakes and their application on our cars.
I have experienced the brakes abilities in a 911 RS and an Audi S6 -
phenomenal stopping power. They are now putting them on the much smaller
A4... My question - has anyone tried these on a Miata and if not, why not?
The price on the brakes are very cheap - less than $1000 for a pair, they
are either 4 or 6 piston Brembos with the "Porsche" name on the outside
face.
Any thoughts?

Porsche seem to make the best brakes .. these are modified Brembos not just
stock ones ..but I had seen far higher prices than that .. but then AP which
is the UK alternative is about 1200 GBP or $1750 about 10 years ago for a
custom set up (complete) .. hate to think how much now ... makes the
Wilwoods look like a bargain.
On Wilwoods .. has anyone found pins to replace those horrible split pins
... they really do honk as a design .. those things went out with 14 hour
car services in 1970.. replaced with pins and R clips. I do have a '70 car
with those split pins and pad replacement was always a battle to see how
many pieces the split pin came out in... and that was cast iron calipers
(about same size as stock as the Wilwood on a 1300cc car :-) )

Todd,
Here in Europe, the only company that I know of, making the Porsche brake
system adapted for other cars is Move-it in Germany.
Their system has the reputation of beiing the absolute best there is (but at
a price!).
I have inquired with them for both my Subaru Turbo and the MX-5/miata and
was told they don't have a adapted Porsche system for the Mazda.
On the price: I wonder where you got your quote, their pricelist starts at
about DM 4300,= excl. tax (roughly $ 2200,=).

I believe that they are modified - I have never felt brakes grab so hard,
but I don't know what the modifications are.
The $1000 price is a rough estimate for calipers only, with no bracketry. I
don't know if I was given a wholesale or retail price, but if I fall into
some $$$ soon, I may check it out.

I looked at the Movit brakes for my '01 S4, after Laguna Seca tore up
my stock ones -- it's a really nice kit, using 993 or 996 calipers.
It definitely required 17" rims though, and they were $3K an end.

You must have been pricing the 996's there are a couple types of the big
reds, including a cheaper version for the Boxster that, thinking as I type,
may be better suited for the Miata and I know these are less than $750 for
the pair retail, 'cause I was looking to fit them to my '92 S4.
Hmmm... Boxster brakes on a Miata... is that heresy?

Well, the boxsters *are* slower, so it might make sense....

I looked at the Movit brakes for my '01 S4, after Laguna Seca tore up
my stock ones -- it's a really nice kit, using 993 or 996 calipers.
It definitely required 17" rims though, and they were $3K an end.
