Should I tap it in the bottom/back near the oil plug or up front near the turbo drain? Does it matter?

Thanks,
Ray Ackley

Autometer has a replacement oil drain plug with a tapped hole in the
center to mount the temp sensor. It's p/n 2267. This would be an
alternative to tapping the pan. Here's a link w/ some info on the oil
temp gauge I used (at the bottom of the page).

If you don't use Lee's idea, tap the lower sump on the pan near the bottom.
The area where the oil returns from the turbo will have no sitting oil for
the sender to be covered by.

If you opt to go for something other than the replacement oil drain plug Lee
mentioned, I recommend drilling and tapping the side of the pan, immediately
opposite the drain plug. That's where mine is -- lots of clearance inside
that part of the pan.

I suspected the lack of resting oil in that location...it wouldn't make much
sense with all of FM's warnings about the turbo draining to have oil sitting
there. I already have the 1/8" NPT tap, so I'm just going to tap it. Now
if I can only get a halfway decent non-rainy day.. :-) Thanks!
