Man, how I HATE to spend money! I'm not cheap, really, but hey, It hurts to
spend so much at one time.
After considering the power listers' advice, researching Miatanet and other
sites, and comparing photos, prices, test reports, and consumer reviews, I
bought a wheel/tire package from Goodwin (not the least expensive place around),
because Goodwin had a lightweight Panasport clone, the Konig Rewind, that
fits over the BBK, is 15 x 7 (+ 40 mm offset) and weighs (according to
Goodwin's website) 14.6 pounds.
That makes it just a pound heavier than the 15 x 7 Kosei K1s.
I chose the Kumho Ecsta MX 205/50 x 15 over the Falken Azenis because the
Kumhos are reported to have better wet weather handling and can take prolonged
periods of driving without "getting greasy", meaning they handle the heat
better (or possibly better than the 215 series, as the 615s are said to be
significantly better than the 215s.) I tend to drive long distances during the
summer - hundreds of miles at a clip, and my tires need to put up with that.
Additionally the Kumhos are a good 2+ pounds lighter than the Azenis, and
they're 2 pounds lighter than S03s, which will soon be unavailable. I suspect
that the Azenis would feel better when cold and on short drives, and I may
yet find out as neither the Falken nor Kumho are rated as long lasting tires.
I figure I'll try the Kumho first, and then the Falken after more reviews on
the 615 series have been posted.
I'd have preferred 195/50 x 15s, but neither tire is available in that size.
The Wheels/Tires/center caps/spine drive lugs/and 2 sets of hubcentric rings
(good idea - I find the cheap plastic rings break) cost about a thousand
bucks....
I seriously considered another set of S03s on Kosei K1s, as the K1s are
being phased out, so they're on sale, but the Konig Rewinds have a look I've
always liked, and didn't think I could get with the BBK (or the weight penalty of
Panasports.)
I considered SSRs with Kumhos or S03s or other tires, in both 15 and 16 inch
sizes, but the price was astronomical.
I'd have preferred another set of S03's, and I corresponded with both
Goodwin and Jake at Tirerack regarding sending either the tire or the wheels to
either store.
Then I realized I'd also be paying for shipping twice... and have two stores
to deal with if I had a problem. I like to keep things simple, so I dropped
that Idea.
Tirerack offers a similar Panasport clone made by ASA which looks more like
the Panasport than does the Konig, but it is not available in 15 inch size,
and the 16 incher weighs 18 lbs - just too heavy.
Yeah, I tend to over-analyze, but that's how I convince myself that I'm
getting the best value for the dollar.
Anyhoo, thanks for the comments on the SSR/Volk wheels, the Azenis, and the
Kumhos.
I'll have pics on my Miatanet/CarDomain site in a few weeks.
Goodwin's site has some gorgeous photos in the forums.

All of the light-weight tires (varying brands) that I've owned have leaked =
air much faster than heavier tires on the very same wheels. Is that just c=
oincidence or have others noticed the same thing? My sample isn't large en=
ough to have statistical value. To be more specific, the lighter-weight ti=
res seem to drop from 35 psi to 30psi in two weeks or less while the heavie=
r ones will do the same in about 4-6 months. I'm wondering if the extra we=
ight is due to an extra internal coating of some kind of sealing compund.=
