Hi -
I've been curious about this for a while, and haven't really gotten an
answer I understand. (This doesn't mean they weren't good answers, just that
I didn't get it!)

Has anyone tried alternate air/fuel management systems (for lack of a better
term) off another car?

I'm an unrepentant dumpster diver*, and I also used to have a (wonderful)
1990 Mazda 626 GT (until it was rear-ended while stopped). That was a 2.2
liter 12V turbo with up to 9 pounds of boost, same as the MX-6 GT and Probe
turbo.

This seems like it would be a relatively trouble-free swap over to the
Miata, assuming you could make things fit. I mean, it's a Mazda turbo
system, from the factory. Mine sure worked great. Move the injectors,
computer, knock sensor, all that stuff. Even the same connectors, most
likely.

Anybody ever try this or anything like it?
How did it work?
Why aren't these more popular?

Apologies if this is a too-often asked question. Feel welcome to reply to me
directly off the list.

Thanks in advance,
Geremy

*An excellent dumpster-diver. I'm even featured on the Flyin' Miata website!

Haven't tried it, but one problem I can see is the inability to raise
boost w/o bypassing the safeties built into the OE software. Take a
look at the HKS stuff available for Supras to bypass the fuel cut, rpm
limit, MAF or MAP limit, ect. and you'll get an idea what I mean.

The 2.2L motor won't fit, or at least it won't mate to a trans. that we
can use, IIRC. The 2.0 NA motor will via the truck bell housing. Or at
least that's what I recall Randy our intrepid motor swapping racer
intending to do.

You were just talking about the management system from what I
understand. What benefits do you believe are available via this route
as opposed to the Link system? Cost, reliability, ease of use, ect.?
And why?
