Hi Folks,

I'm going to be installing an aftermarket speedo into my 1990 Miata.

Here is the install PDF for the Speedo.

sw-performance.com/PDF/instal/Speedos.PDF

I know I don't have an electronic speedo sensor, but I do have a 1995 Front
complete Subframe from a 1995M with ABS in my car!! Can I use the front ABS
sensor as the Hall effect sensor or magnetic sender?

Does anyone have a spare front ABS sensor (Either side)? I think I threw them
out when I gave the left over shell to the junk yard.

Do you think this will work? I don't want to buy a sensor if this is not going
to work, but would love to get one from a list member if they got one sitting
around in a junker frame or something.

I'm replacing my entire cluster with aftermarket stuff.. Only thing I may have
to use from the stocker is the fuel level gauge as no-one makes one to talk
with my Mazda sender.

If you get a MK2 (1999+) VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor), you can plug that
directly where the speedo-gear fits on the transmission, and pick up the
signal from the VSS.=20

Why not just pick a sender from a late model Miata at a scrap yard?

Hi Chris,

A VSS would be great, but I don't think a 99+ VSS is going to be easy to get
(Unless someone has one kicking around). I'm also trying to come up with a
cheap/readily available solution which I can document to others hoping to do
something very similar in the future.

I think the ABS sensor will work, and I'm sure the VSS will. The pro to using
a ABS sensor will be that even when I burn rubber in 4th gear, it will show my
true speed :) (I can do 4th gear burnouts on the hwy!)

Can't even find a late model at the wreckers in my area.. Nevermind find a
wreckers who will allow me to cut the harness.. I figure the ABS sensor is a
cheap option!

Anyone have a VSS and plug? Bill/Keith?

A lister is providing me with a Front ABS sensor.. I don't see any reason why
it won't work with the Stewart Warner Speedo. What do you electronic guru's
think?

Special Thanks to Aaron Lee for the sensor!
