I ran out of gas on my way to Phoenix from DC a few weeks ago. (Pushed the =
light a little too far that time)
I called AAA on the New Mexico/Texas border and the operator knew my positi=
on within a few hundred feet.
This is with a Sprint PCS phone.

I had a bag of fritos, they were Texas grilled Fritos. These Fritos had gri=
ll marks on them. They remind me of something, when we used to fire up the =
barbeque and throw down some Fritos. I can still see my dad with the apron =
on, better flip that Frito, dad, you know how I like mine.

ya when i first got GSM from AT&T, they offered a service to "track" anothe=
r=20
cell phone online. the tracked phone has to "acknowlege" the request for=20
privacy purposes. so my wife and i tried it, the results were not that=20
accurate, about 5 miles off. i wasnt impressed. bujt yes its good as=20
ageneral tracking function, and now with E911 (my state is the first to=20
fully require it) they can pinpoint you very close to the actual location.

i'll have to check on the lojack thing, i was told that by a friend who=20
usually gets that stuff correct.

I also have a Sprint phone - a Sanyo SCP-7200.

In the phone's setup screen, there's an option to turn the location feature on or off. The phone's help menu claims that turning it on will "make some Sprint applications easier to use," while even turned off, it will still provide information to 911 (and presumably any other agency who compels Sprint under CALEA.)

What I'm trying to figure out is what applications, aside from 911, would possibly care where I am standing?

Interesting.
Mine is a Sanyo SCP-5300 and the same menu option indicates that turning th=
e locator off will make it impossible for 911 to find me.
Perhaps turning yours "off" only lowers the CPU horsepower dedicated to it =
rather than really turning it off like on my significantly older and out-of=
-date model.

Unwillingly good, but good nonetheless.

You can't just smell for them? :)

Speaking of, we recently had some law college student suing to stop the
building of a Chinese place near her home because the smell would ruin her
antiques... uhhh... ok?!?
