When I bought my Miata last winter the car dealer, who restores muscle
cars, suggested that I get the car wet sanded. It?s an Emerald Green ?99
with 20,000 miles and is in nearly flawless condition. There are two
small nicks right next to, and a little behind, the front license plate,
but that?s it. I?ve read that wet sanding removes paint. Is it a good
idea to do this and if it is, should I bring it to a pro?
Thanks for your advice.

If I fully understand your question, this may be the
silliest advice anyone ever gave you. Have a decent body
shop repair the small nicks. Or just put some wax over them
and drive it.
Wet-sanding a car in "nearly flawless condition" sounds
really wrong. A little buffing at a detailer, maybe.
