Okay here's a good one: How can I convince my wife that my lil Mia needs a
sister/brother? keep in mind that this lady is a "Chevy truck" person.

Carlos & Mia who's anxiously waiting for a sibling

LMAO, that might work or I could use my method of slowly but surely wearing
her down about how lonely Mia is sitting there in the driveway with that
ugly Buick (hers) and how much she would like some Miata company :D

I won't even go into the question of Miata guy vs Chevy Truck gal, but I
will caution that sometimes it's better to just leave it alone and let her
come to you. Does she like to ride in your car? With the top down? Does
she enjoy driving? Not navigating a vehicle from point A to point B, but
actually driving? If you answered yes to any of the above then you are
ahead of the game already.

There are a lot of people in this world who think of automobiles as nothing
more than a more convenient version of the bus. You'll see them driving
Accords and Camrys and any of a multitude of trucks (SUV and minivans
included). To these people a Miata is not easily understood. They can't
conceive of, let alone understand, the joy that comes from driving a car
like ours. To them a car or truck is a tool, a way to move around. If it
isn't comfortable (wind-free, climate controlled, quiet, smooth) it's not a
very good tool. Some of these people can be converted through exposure,
others cannot. Forcing the issue is likely to fail on either type.

If your wife doesn't object to riding in your car, especially top-down, then
there's hope. Try to expose her to the nicer aspects of the car. Take her
on a nice drive in the country on a sunny but not too hot day, go out to
dinner on a clear, balmy night and let her look up at the stars through the
branches of the trees as you drive along. In short, try to make every
encounter she has with your car a treat, a happy experience rather than a
motion between two points. Make the car magical. If she has any
inclination, that will help to sway her, just don't push.

If she has an appreciation of motorsports, you are indeed fortunate, and
that might be another avenue in the form of autocross. Most newcomers are a
bit nervous about the idea of driving their car hard, but again, with
repeated positive exposure that concern begins to give way to interest.

Good luck, I hope she eventually develops an appreciation to match yours,
but don't be impatient and don't be too disappointed if it never happens.
There are all types, and if this isn't a common interest you'll just have to
accept that.

Now if you just wanted a 2nd Miata for /you/... ;)

That's my SO. A car is just a method of getting from A to B and the Miata
doesn't have enough cargo space to carry whatever it is he wants to carry.

I'm trying exposure (top-down in November) and country drives (20kph curves
at 60kph), and I'm not mentioning tracks cuz at the mere mention of a track
he goes ballistic.

Think it'll work? :D

I think you might have missed the point. :)

In your case you may have already achieved the best you can get in the form
of a don't ask/don't tell, and do your own thing deal.

Hey now....I own a 2000 Silverado, of course it's not fun to drive like the
Miata, but then try to haul 15' 2x10's with the miata, or a load of gravel.
I drive my Miata 90% of the time but there are times when a work horse is
needed. There are a few things the truck just does better.

No arguments here. My point was and is that as an enthusiast vehicle, or
even basic transportation, it falls a bit short.

Ah, but unlike a minivan, a truck will tow the race car to the track. :)

Ahhhhm got the right lady but wrong locale. IIRC she and her hubby also
celebrate their anniversary right around Gap time each year and they came
down for the gathering the year she got the car. Now that's a supportive
mate!!! In the words of Will Smith "I gotta get me one of these!" I found a
Miata guy recently and he's a ragtop enthusiast too. Thing is he's really
more of a BMW guy and is selling the Miata to buy another BMW. :( The dang
thing is a Silver Sport too...and any that know me know of my affinity for
the Silver Sports. Just when you think you get lucky...LOL. Oh well.

Cat - who's cars think all her currency really are MSUs
CATTOY '97 M - the green one who takes all the big bucks
Tico '00 Evo LS - the gold one who just gets the pocket change
Team - no kids...two roadsters to support
