Hello Miata list,
I am in the process of replacing my '91 BRG with a newer Miata. What is
the realistic price I should ask, if I buy a newer Miata, for my older
car? My '91 has 87k miles, 5 speed, '95 LE chrome alloy wheels, leather is
still nice, hardtop, AC works great. Soft top is a Mazda OEM replacement,
black as original. Timing belt is done; everything works as it should. It
has almost new belts, hoses, plugs, wires, filters, brakes, Westco
battery. Almost new Fuzion tires. Oil changes at 3k intervals with
Castrol 10-30. When washed and clean, looks like a 3-year old car. I
still have the original wheels too. As I write this, I wonder, why am I
selling this car and getting another one . . .

One small glitch: the OEM top for a BRG was tan.? Because of that, you lose the ability to market it as a true BRG.? In the end, you have a 18-yr old car that's approaching 100k.? Here's how I'd break down your money:
Hardtop: $1000 tops
95M Wheels: $600-1000 (if you're talking about the BBS's, they weren't chrome and there was no LE in 95)
Original "Daisy" wheels: $100-200 (they are the same as the alloy wheels sold 90-93)
The car itself is worth about $2500-3000 without actually seeing it and knowing where you are selling it.? Where I live in Ohio, prices tend to be on the higher side, so if you're not in this area, expect even less.
Long story short, I'd say the value of the car is at most $5200 if you sold everything listed above.

Nope. The '91 BRG had a tan interior and black top. Tan tops didn't appear
until '92.

I misspoke in the post below.? I had not remembered that the BRG's top was black.? That said, I'd say it would only give you an advantage in price equivalent to the price of an OEM top.? I honestly don't think you could get $6000 from anyone but a collector for a '91, no matter what package.

You looked for that car for a long time... It doesn't happen to have
ABS, does it? It was a factory option in '91, but I don't know if any
BRG's have it. If it does, I might well have to try to figure out how
to buy it from you... My '91 with 250,000 miles is getting very, very
tired:)
