People mentioned to me the advantages of 15" rims over 16 - namley that besides being lighter you can get a wide selection of decent tires for cheap.

I'm quite sold on the idea and have been looking quite seriously at picking up a set of factory 15"ers since they don't weigh much. However, I've been thinking, since what I'm after is width, couldn't I get a set of 15X6.5 or 15X7 in rims? I'm sure they will bolt onto the car, but I'm wondering what you people think about having that size rims with some decent performing tires good for a daily driver that still sees some autoxing.

Thanks in advance all!!!
-Abe.

Larry, I'm curious as to what the benefit of running 15x8 wheels on the
rear with the same width tire as the front is? How about 225's on the
rear? Then adjust your suspension to compensate for any resulting
understeer?

Jamie.

Tire size choices.

Try finding 225 tires in a 15" size in the proper ratio.

In all honesty, Larry, that makes me still wonder why the larger wheels, given that you're running the same tire size. Just curious...

I have a set of 15" Pansports the fronts are 7" wide and the rears are 8",I
use a 215 45 15 on the rear an 195 50 15 on the front. I am curently using
Toyo tires. The rims were special order from Japan and maybe are still available.
I have used this combo on a supercharged 1992 and my current 2000 SE.

Take it easy, but take it. Ken R.

Yup but Ken ran 195/50/15 on the fronts and 205/50/15 on the rear. We traded rear rims 15 x 7 for his 15 x 8's. We wanted the 15 x 8's but there were none available for months.

As for running the 215/45/15 tires, doing a search on Tire Rack comes up with zero hits of tires in that size. The Toyo's must be one of the only tires made in that size.

I believe Toyo is the only maker of this size. It is the perfect diam. as
the odomoter reads 100 mi. to 100 mi. of mile markers on the highway.

I'm running 15x8 wheels with 225 width rubber, the correct sizing is 225/45
but I run 225/50 which is fine too, I know local guys that run 15x7.5 wheels
too and are fine as well with the 225's.
With 15x8 wheels like mine, fender rolling is a must, you might get away with
it if you find a 15x7.5 in the correct offset.

The wider the wheel the better the feeling and control are (obviously if the
tire is sized to match) since the sidewalls flex less.

I'm quite sold on the idea and have been looking quite seriously at picking
up a set of factory 15"ers since they don't weigh much. However, I've been
thinking, since what I'm after is width, couldn't I get a set of 15X6.5 or 15X7
in rims? I'm sure they will bolt onto the car, but I'm wondering what you
people think about having that size rims with some decent performing tires good
for a daily driver that still sees some autoxing.

Larry, try 225's all around and put the 15x8 in the front and the 15x7 in the
back... it might not look as cool but driving on the track you'll love every
second of it.

I ran my 15x8's a few times with different sizes, and one of my favorite
combos is 245/45 fronts and 225/45 rear (245/40 for the front is impossible to
find), makes for awesome turn in and grip in corners, very neutral.

Those sound like very nice rims and probably quite sensible for the track, but for street use and keeping my wallet from getting too thin, it's sounding like 15X6.5 is about where I'd want to stop?

Choose your tires first then get wheels to suit. The tire manufacturer will
have a recommended range of wheel widths for a given tire and size. If the
wheels you want are available in a 15x7 and the tires will fit that, then
go ahead with the 15x7. Same for the 15x6.5, 15x6, whatever. Honestly, you
won't feel a big difference on the street.
