Here is the description of what happened, straight from the horse's
mouth....
"What is it with these troopers and total lack of common manners??? The only
ticket I've been given was this past Summer in the Emergency room of the
Bath County, VA. hospital, getting my left arm sewn back together. The
Trooper shooed all the medical folks out of the room and issued the ticket
while I was lying on the table waiting to get my procedures finished. I
guess you can be at least a little thankful you didn't have to go through
THAT!! The clown wrote me a reckless driving ticket because I hit gravel on
a mountain curve, and laid my CX500Turbo over during the crash on the blind
curve. HE SAID, "Virginia law states that anytime you are at fault, and have
an accident on a motorcycle, you are guilty of reckless driving because you
failed to maintain your motorcycle under control". He went to the site an
hour after the incident and came up with his deduction. This joker must have
been hired under the "equal employment opportunity" law from the bottom of
the gene pool. Troopers may not have an easy job, but then again, these
types aren't going to make it any easier. I doubt I'll ever spend another
dime in Virginia if I can avoid it in any way. The ticket was $140."
The fellow was from out-of-state (Georgia) and I guess it was too much
bother to go back and try and fight it.
Regards
Dave McGill

Probably. I had a similar accident when I was stationed at Ft. Ord. I was
out and about on the various range roads on a Saturday morning with a friend
of mine. He was trailing me by about 2 bike lengths when I hit some sand in
the road at about 70 mph around a right hand sweeper. I was running between
75 and 85% of my capabilities.
The rear of the bike came around to my left and I hit the ground on my right
side as I pushed myself away from the bike. My body rotated on the
lengthwise axis onto my back with my feet pointing in the direction of
travel so I got to watch the bike as I slid. As is common in most accidents,
it was all snapshot memories. When I finished moving I realized the bike had
slid on it's side back into the road wheels first. They had managed to get
traction again and flipped the bike twice in the air (called a highside to
those who know what I'm talking about) and it landed on the left side. It
snapped off the shift lever, left foot peg and left handlebar.
It took my friend everything he had to avoid hitting either me or the bike
as he tried to stop safely, fotunately both he and his bike made it out
unscathed. A pickup truck came by a few minutes later and the driver offered
me a ride to the hospital (about 5 minutes away, we were near the C-130
mock-up if anyones familiar with the back yard at Ft. Ord). The hospital was
required to report any motor vehicle incedent to the MP's who had civil law
authority on post. They came and interviewed me, then went to the site.
Between the time I left in the truck and the time the MP got on site my
friend had thrown most of the debris in the weeds and leap-frogged my bike
and his back to our barracks, 100 yards at a time. A difficult task to say
the least considering that it had only one handlebar and the wrong footpeg.
The clutch handle was still attached to the bar and dangled by the cable.
When the MP returned he reported that while he would have loved to write me
a reckless driving and public endangerment ticket, he couldn't because there
was no evidence of an accident. He did mention that he saw the sand I hit,
and saw the skidmarks through it, but declared that there was insufficent
evidence to tie me and my bike to it. My firned showed up at the hospital
about 5 minutes after the MP left. Apparently he had been waiting outside
because he saw the patrol car parked in front of the emergency entrance.
I took the insurance money and put it into a set of HRC cams, lifters,
springs, EcU and a 38 tooth front sprocket. It was the only 600 CC bike in
the Monterey Peninsula that could power wheelie. I fixed and repainted the
bodywork myself with medium metallic Kelley Green and placed plain white
laser cut Honda stickers on the lower fairings and above the the head and
tail light. Confused a large number of people I met...

Crashing really sucks because so much of the bike gets trashed in even a
small, non-injury crash.
The side benefit to that is insurance money can be nice for performing a
makeover on the bike.
Try this for confusing:
