I have a pretty stock 1990 with no turbo. I was wondering how effective it
would be to change the air intake and would it be worth it performance wise.
Thanks

Changing the intake alone doesn't necessarily improve performance. For
example, I have a K&N FilterCharger which makes the car /sound/ great, but
doesn't make it go any faster. On the other hand, something like the
Jackson Racing Cold Air Intake, or Randall Cowl Induction Intake do improve
performance, with dyno results to prove it. The Randall can be found here:
shop.store.yahoo.com/dealeralternative/rancarfibcow.html
and the JR CAI can be seen here:
performancebuyers.com/catalog.html?carLineID=10&view=description&
partID=1846&areaID=&subareaID=8&start=1&thumbs=0&q=intake&scope=All
If you haven't already done so, I would first recommend advancing your
timing to 14° BTDC. That alone will produce a noticeable improvement in low
end torque and overall performance.

Does anyone have documentation on how to adjust the timing? I have an old
timing light sitting around some place, but the way things go, I bet I need
a new fangled one to do this.

Nothing newfangled required. In fact, the older timing lights work better.
