Rudy Rouhana, a Miata owner from Austin, TX, has entered his 2001 Miata SE
in the One Lap, and I'm going to be his co-driver. Details of the event are
here: onelapofamerica.com

The car has a BRP M-62 supercharger, Track Dog Racing intercooler and
radiator, and Tein Flex suspension. Sponsors are BR Performance,
Adrenaline Motorsports, TrackDog Racing, and Tire Rack. I haven't driven
it yet (we live 800 miles apart), but it should be strong, comfortable, and
reliable.

The actual event covers 5600 miles this year, not counting the 1400 miles
each way to Tire Rack in South Bend, IN, where it starts and ends. It lasts
a whole week. The problem is that you have to do all the transit driving at
night since you spend all day at the race tracks. The longest overnight
ride is 1300 miles. Short ones are only 600-700. We don' need no steenking
sleep!

Are we nuts? Probably. But we don't think so, so don't try to convince us
that we are! We think we're going to have fun.

Please take a look at the schedule. We run at Heartland Park, Pike's Peak
International, Sears Point, Las Vegas, Pueblo, Hallett, and Road America.
If you live close to one of the tracks, we'd love it if you'd stop by and
say hello. Spectators are allowed at all tracks and all are free admission
except maybe for Hallett. There are some very interesting cars entered, so
the car show alone would be worth a visit.

Wish us luck!

Sam Sharp

Sam,

I >ALMOST< got to run the 1 Lap about 5 years ago but the sponsorship
deal fell through at the last minute (my co-driver would have been a buy
from The Weather Channel's radio division!).

I only work about 30 minutes from South Bend...I'll try & swing by for
the start or finish & say "Hi."

I don't know where you're based out of, but we'd LOVE to have your car
on display the Miatas & More IV, our sports car show at the Gilmore Car
Museum up here in Michigan!

Good luck Sam.

A local shop owner, Karl Troy, from Charleston is entered again this year.
This is his 3rd year, I think, in the event. Year 1 he drove a Lamborghini
Diablo and finished 10th overall. I think Brock Yates said it was the first
time a newbie finished in the top 10. Last year he drove a race version of
a Lamborghini Diablo and finished 9th. That was considering he got no
points at all for the first session at Watkins Glen due to a crash on the
warm-up lap!! This year he's driving a Steyr-Puch, I have no idea what that
is.

Anyway look out for him as he is fast and a little crazy. Well I guess you
are too for doing the event. His stories about what they have to do to
compete are nuts!!!
