I use the Mazda brand B2600 filter. It's a bit bigger than the Mazda
Miata filter, but fits without any problem. Still, I did notice a few
years ago that oil filters from the Mazda dealer, even though they have
Mazda written all over them, are manufactured in the US now rather than
Japan, so the quality may have declined.

Does this mean you use the B2600 Mazda filter from the dealer, or a
Miata filter from the dealer?

I wonder whats different?

Of course then the filter's definitely not from a "Mazda" filter! Fords are allegedly Purolators, so I wouldn't

If that's the case I'm definitely sticking with my ACDs ('bout the only ACD thing I have ever used, actually).
I will be looking into the B2600 and see if that's a larger filter than the Civic one as an alternative, although for
sure you'll NEVER fail to find a car part for a Civic no matter where in the world you go!
I don't do 3000 miles in 3 months... Is synth [Mobil 1] good for longer time periods without changing? It's
been three months and about 1000 miles (have to check my trip-o-meter). I've heard perfectly opposed comments on
synthetic: 1) it turns to cloppy gelatin after "3 months" regardless of mileage and you MUST change it and 2) it
withstands time periods (as well as mileage and heat) much better than dino oil and you are just wasting your money
draining it... I'd LOVE it if someone would further confuse me ;)

Hahahahah. I guess you joined after the month-long synth v. dino debate.

I'll give you the short of it: No one has any hard data, and everyone
has their own thing.

I personally run full synthetic (used to be Royal Purple, but now I can
get Mobil 1 5W-30 cheaper) and change it every 10,000 miles, with an oil
filter change every 5,000 miles. Even that's probably changing it more
than I really need to.

I wouldn't run dino longer than 3,000.

Actually I think I've weathered a couple on here (and several million on prior lists for sure)... Thing is I
don't remember this specific issue coming up - that is "atmospheric" breakdown of the oil. I've never run dino longer
than 3000 / 3 mon, but by most accounts it seems synth is safer for time.
BMW maintenance is what 12000/6 month or something funky like that (built in to the lease these days)? And tell
me some of those owners aren't hammering on their vehicles... And I have heard several times - without confirmation OF
COURSE - that BMW's synth IS or is at least extremely close to Mobil 1.
Anyway, I just don't rack up the mileage, I'll run out of time before miles! My oil will dry to dust before I
burn it away :)

Well, synthetic oils don't break down over time as much as conventional
oils, is my understanding. I think yearly oil changes are probably a
safe way to go-- and that's what I do for my truck that's only driven a
few thousand miles a year.

I believe Porsche specs Mobile 1 for the Boxster (and for their other
cars for all I know) and they allow for yearly oil changes and a huge
amount of miles between changes--maybe even more time and mileage betwen
changes for the later ones--good thing too, seeing as how that car takes
something like 9 quarts of the stuff or more.
