Any suggestions from past USGP fans for a first timer? I am thinking
about going to the race this year. If I do, I'll buy tickets tonite or
tomorrow morning. I have never been to the race before. I am looking
for suggestions on where to sit ... or should I just stay home and watch
the Button-Trulli-Sato podium finish on TV
thanks

Jones,
I've also been contemplating coming for the race...the tip I got from a
buddy of mine who's gone several times: go for practice &
qualifying...watch the race at home. He says the crowd is just so big
that it's tough to move around...and due to the construction of the
track, visibility is pretty bad.
Then there's the whole "giving money to Tony George" aspect...but that's
another discussion alltogether.

Yes, the crowds can be large on race day, but they seem to be getting
smaller every year. The other thing to keep in mind is that it may be your
last chance to see F1 at Indy, this is the last year of the 5 year contract
with Tony George, and who knows what plans Bernie might have for the future.
There are rumours that he is looking to do something on the west coast
instead.
As for visibility, I would disagree, if you can get into Stand J (or there
abouts) you have a clear view right from pit exit through at least the first
6 corners, I doubt many F1 tracks can offer that. The other thing that is
good is that if you are down low in the stands, you are pretty close to the
track, which all adds to the experience. Many modern tracks put the
spectators across the other side of the vast runoff areas so you are rather
remote from the cars.
Indy isn't perfect, the second bit of the infield it more like a go-kart
track than an F1 track, but it's still well worth the effort of going if you
are into F1.
Simon.
