Hello List,

I have been the proud owner of a 2002 Miata SE in
"Blazing Yellow" (only 20,000 miles--really clean
car!) for exactly two days now. Sadly, it's raining
here and I refuse to drive it with the top up (just
doesn't seem right) so, still haven't driven it much,
but, so far, I like it.

I was wondering if there are any useful articles for a
new Miata owner that anyone can point me too. Any
important quirks that I should know about in driving
or caring for this car? It has the six-speed
transmission, I've noticed the shift points are very
different from what I'm used to. It sure accelerates.
Maybe there are no special things to know, but I'm
used to driving a 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider. I love that
car, but it has its oddities. By the way, the almost
30-year-old Alfa has perfect seats because it's always
had sheepskin covers on it. I'd like to do the same
with the Miata, but the seats are so pointy. Anyone
know who makes covers that fit the high-back Miata
seats?

Thanks

Colin

I'm a newbie myself, so others can chime in with specifics, but
a good place to start is Miata.net for general information and forums.
As for seat covers I bought some cheapies at Advance Auto
(basically Alcantara, though not the brand name) that fit terribly, but
not because of the high back, just the opposite: the seats are too small
for the covers. However, since both the seats and the covers are
grippy, the covers DO stay in place. It's the sides (of the back and
bottom) that look puffy and need to be sewn up or something. I haven't
worked on them so that they fit better, but for 20 a pair, I can't
complain, and they'll help keep the original seats from wearing any more
(which is quite good for 80k, but by no means perfect, already had to
fill the sides with vinyl repair, though that worked really well).
Finally, welcome to the list!

Chris C.
