Okay, well I posted this on miata.net....so I'll post it here too. I'm
considering buying a turbo and exhaust manifold off a MSM. after doing this
I figure I'll need oil/water lines, exhaust, intake tubing (both from filter
element to turbo and turbo to intercooler to intake manifold.), and of
course some sort of piggyback to control fuel and timing. I've seen that a
few people have done this swap but I'm under the impression that no VVT cars
have. I'm hoping this won't truly effect anything.

Does this seem like a reasonable plan for 200-220HP ? I figure after the
500 for the turbo and exh. manifold I should be able to squeak by getting
the rest of the stuff for about 1500.00 more. Sound about right? ish?

dunno, might not be worth it. Opinions?
Thanks in advance
Ben

As the owner of both a MSM and a FM I car I don't think I would do it.

The MSM turbo isn't the best in the world and I'm not sure your going to meet your goal on pricing unless you get some items used. The oil drain is likely to be an issue, it's a hard pipe on the MSM turbo and drains right into the block.

If it were me I'd look for a used FM kit or save and get a new FM kit even if you start with a base unit and grow it.

I'm with Larry on this.

If you're going to be placing turbo parts on your car, you can do better
than the MSM items.

Try not to use a piggyback ECU if you can avoid it.

The MSM stuff is definitely the wrong way to go. Visit miataturbo.net and do
some searching on what options fit your goals.
