Here's kind of a cool photo I took yesterday from the Miata - my wife was driving, I hung my arm and camera over the side and snapped a few frames. I thought the road sign captured the 'essence' of a Miata pretty well. :)

Thanks!
I got a little nervous with my camera that close to the ground, but what the heck! I've been thinking about rigging up a pole so I can get a more unique angle that includes a better view of the vehicle - we'll see... I wonder what a cop would think of a car driving around with a camera attached to the end of a pole hanging out of the car!

Man, that makes me want one of those little suction cup mounted video
cams. What a great shot that would be cruising through the Gap!

One of my mates has been starting up a small production company called
Driftworks. They've made a few motorsport videos.
One of the cameras we use is attached to some magnets. He often places
it in a similar fashion mounted to the side of the car door.
Hopefully I'll be able to place his original video online soon, there's
one bit of footage with 1/2 the forward view off a racetrack perfectly
mirrored in the paintwork of a car.
He also uses a mini cam similar to Jason's "pole" idea, we call it
"stick cam" , there's some wild footage at almost road level, and being
on a pole he can swing the view up over the car etc.
Another of his wild ideas is an RC helicopter with a minicam and
wireless transmitter, it's still being developed but should create some
interesting footage when done.
If I ever have enough time on my hands I'd love to build a camera boom
that attaches to our style bars. Something the passenger can swing about
4 foot either side and out the back of the car to shoot footage.
I think the UK show "Top Gear" must have a similar boom.
If you ever get a chance to see some of their videos they're fantastic
and set the standard for other style shows.
Excellent photo Jason.

An MR2 Spyder autocrosser came up with this:
conecam.com/
Seems to be very successful and useful for a guy like me who wants
video, but for still pictures it would take something a bit more complex
I would think.

Dave.

David, 7 Network also uses stickcam, hardly surprising as they were first in
the world to use in car cam and two way communication with the driver whilst
on camera during a race.
I'm sure you've seen the stick cam shots of red hot brakes during pit stops
at Bathurst. Just something else that Oz leads the world in! ;-{)

Thanks everyone for the comments on the photo, I really do appreciate it!
Lately I've had a ton of ideas for the Miata and getting more 'unique' shots
and angles of it... Can't wait for our next stretch of good weather!
Thanks again,
Jason Soza
