***I'm not interested in the 'finders fee' .. . but figured it wouldn't hurt
to pass this along. I also recommended to this fellow the Miata.net for
sale forum, as well as Craigslist. If you buy this car, like I said, don't
worry about referring me -- just buy it and have FUN!

> Hello,
> I am selling a 2004 Mazda MX-5 LS convertible, black, 6 speed, fully
loaded. It has barely over 11,000 miles, is in perfect shape, 1 owner, and
I am asking $17,900 obo. Because of your affiliation with a Miata car club,
I thought you may know of somebody interested in my vehicle. If you find me
a buyer, I will give you 1% of the sale price as a finder fee/commission. I
have tried selling it in my local newspaper with no luck. Please let me
know if you have any prospective buyers. I am located in Fresno,CA, but I
am willing to ship the car as well. I have pics upon request or would love
to setup an appointment with somebody if they wanted to see or drive the
car. Thanks for your help!

Perhaps he'd have more luck if it weren't so grossly overpriced. Y'all know
how I feel about NA's, and when Mazda stopped making real Miatas, but that's
pretty ridiculous.

***Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing. Granted, it's got low miles,
but I can't see shelling out close to $18k for a used car, even that one.
Maybe for a pristine 10AE . . . but I dunno. I'm not going to advise him on
pricing -- I'll leave that up to him. He'll find out soon enough if he
posts to Craigslist, surely. He probably just took a look at the Kelly and
figured he'd get that price. Who knows?

Go do some lookups on Edmunds or KBB. The price isn't out of line for the year and mileage.

I keep hearing these magic stories of the 18k leftover MSM and the 16k 2005 Miata. Never seen any.

All I'm telling you is the book value of the car he's trying to sell is more than he's asking for it.

All I can say is that I saw the ads on autotrader with my own eyes ;)

3 leftover '05s in Chicago from $16.2-$16.8, all manual trannies with
varying options. The $18k MSMs were in Atlanta.

Could be a regional thing too. I just did a quick search of
AutoTrader and found used '05's in the $21-24k range.
'04's are anywhere from $17k to 19k.
Since he is in central California I think he's not far off. I think
one thing he has against him is it's a black car.
Not a real popular color in 105 degree heat and a pain in the butt to
maintain.

I did a KBB on it in the Seattle area (don't know his zip code), and with
11,000 miles in excellent condition, it was $4,180, private sale.

I think I might go for that. I'm sure glad I don't live where he does, if
the difference is that huge.

Mail From: robert (Rob Argento)

I bought one of the MSMs in Orlando - December 26, 2004 - they had about
30 in stock (!!) OK, with taxes and such it was a bit over 19k - but
still. At that price the first year?s depreciation is possibly "free" but
at this point it is, of course, lower in value.

Anyone selling a 2 years old car is going to take a loss. It is a fact of
life. If you cant accept that then you probably should not buy a one.

With the advent of the NC I dont think we will see such prices again for
quite a while. It was a combination of overstock both at factory and
dealer, year change and model changes all at the same time. I am perhaps a
bit surprised that the MSM didnt attract more interest than it did at that
time. But I suppose the MSM is more of interest to an established Miata
owner than a Miata novice.

I still get $4,755 for a 1995 at that zip code, private sale, 11,000 miles,

What am I doing wrong? We ARE talkin' about a Miata, right?

I still get $4,755 for a 1995 at that zip code, private sale, 11,000 miles,
in excellent (looks new) condition.

What am I doing wrong? We ARE talkin' about a Miata, right?

(I'd include the link, but KBB won't link to it without inputting the data
again.)

Unless I got cross threaded, part of the problem is being a decade off. I
thought we were talking about a 2004?

That's the difference, thanks!

Dunno where I got the impression we were talking about a '95, but that's why
I made the comment I did about NA's. And the price DID seem a tad bit high.

I must have confused it with another thread.

Given your preference for NA's, I do have a 90 I will let you have for
the same $17K ;-)

You're indeed a gentleman and a scholar, but I couldn't take advantage of
you like that! One of these days, though, I'd like to drive a 1600, just to
see what all the fuss is about. Many say they're the best of the breed.

I do love my 1991.

Though, "sadly," it's an 1800 now.

Absolutely you should! No low end power, but it's worlds more fun up
top. In comparison, the extra gruntiness of the 1.8 is nice, but on
your way up to the rev limiter, it seems like it's doing more noise
production than power production. This isn't true of course, but that's
what it feels like:)

Yeahbut ... it's probably a nice, LIGHT 1800, no?
