With leaf springs and trailing arms, yes. With coilovers, torque arms and
panhard rods or watts linkages, they can be made to work reasonably well.
You've still got lots more unsprung weight (not such a big deal on a
nice smooth track) and no camber curve though.

A friend of mine has a track Mustang with a bunch of Griggs suspension
bits on it which is quite competent on the track. Definitely not the
kind of straight-line-only car that most Miata drivers envision a Mustang
being. :)

yeah, Griggs stuff is totally BADASS, you can make a mustang feel like a
fast miata, it corners good and everything! there's another brand out there
that competes w/ them pretty well, but I can't remember the name.
