I use to have a luggage rack on my trunk. It was an OEM but my trunk
didn't have one originally. I needed it when I relocated to San Diego 9
years ago (cool when you and your wife can relocate across country in a
miata). I took it off a couple of years ago due to its incessant rattling.
What can I do about the mounting holes? How can I weasel out of
purchasing a new lid?

Offer up an even-up trade to anther owner of a blue car. You get a
clean blue lid, he gets a blue lid with a rack. Or did you sell the
rack already?

I took the rack off because it rattled so.

Jethro The Hillbillied SpecMiata came to me as a street car with a luggage rack. We just filled in the holes & resprayed it. Worked like a charm!

I got that part.

What I didn't know is if you threw it away or put it in the
attic. Someone with a blue car might not care that much
about the rattle or may be willing to figure it out and
eliminate it, all to get a free luggage rack because they
needed the luggage space.

Not me. I have a red car...
