I couldn't resist trading my 2002 Miata SE in on the Mazdaspeed, despite the
lack of cruise control. The dealership wouldn't even entertain swapping the
components over from the SE saying there was a warranty issue. I have come
to depend on the cruise for my long-distance commutes and trips to see the
family.

Does anyone know whether there are issues putting post 2000 Miata cruise
control components in a '04 Mazdaspeed? I think the biggest unknowns are
whether the Mazdaspeed wiring harness includes all the necessary wires (I
know the pigtail and connector that are on the cruise control equipped
Miata's is not present on the Mazdaspeed) and whether the electronics
support for cruise control has been eliminated in the Mazdaspeed.

I have the shop manuals for the '02, but the '04's will be expensive to get
for the next year or so (and of course will not mention cruise).

Web links and advice are both appreciated.

Not at all surprised that the dealer didn't want to swap CC with an
older Miata. You're probably better off with an aftermarket cruise
control than trying to get one from another Miata. Several people
have put an Audiovox aftermarket cruise control in their MSM, and have
posted their experiences on miata.net For instance:

forum.miata.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=020157#000000

And there are some good pix and tips at
cardomain.com/memberpage/669597/2

For more, search the "NB" forum on miata.net for "MSM" and "cruise"

HTH.
