My 1990 has 125K and the original clutch. Still no slippage, but I feel my
time is short. How long have people been able to go with a clutch? This car
has had track time. Also, what is a fair price to pay? Are there
aftermarket alternatives that would be good (centerforce?)

Thanks

Steve

My 1990's clutch died at 75K miles. I'm rolling up on 120K and it's about
time to replace it again. Guess I don't know how to drive a clutch as well
as I thought I did!

My first clutch change I got a spankingly good deal on a new 1.8L setup
including the flywheel ($150 for everything) all in the OEM flavor from a
local fella who had it laying around collecting dust. Advanced Clutch
Technologies (ACT) is a popular clutch, strong and capable up to 300 ft-lbs
of torque, but it has a higher pedal resistance than stock. Heck, if you
made it 125K with your first OEM clutch, why not save the money and do it
again?

Yeah, I know how you feel. The previous owner got 100k out of the original
clutch in my car. Replaced it with OEM just before I got the car. There's
158k miles on the car now, and it's nowhere near as grippy as it used to
be.... With sticky tires, I can't get wheel spin unless I literally pop the
clutch. It's still quite driveable, doing normal people things to it, it
doesn't slip. If I give it too much gas on a downshift and the clutch is
hot, it takes it a moment to clamp back down after my foot is off it. I'm
thinking of the flyin' miata ACT clutch as a replacement...
