Hi Folks:

This may seem a strange request, but my wife has these lovely "butterfly"
bushes in our yard next to our driveway. I just happen to park near these
bushes (almost impossible not to). This summer I have little black specs
all over the car on the side that faces the bush. They are all over and
they are like tar.

Cleaning with regular detergent get's most of the spot off, but leaves a
little stain with each dot. If I scrub like hell, they do come off, but
it's A LOT of work. My car is silver so these stains do show.

Do any of you know something that will work well to remove this crap
(literally), without messing the finish and killing my arms? Elbow grease
is one thing, but this is a mess, and they are on my truck as well.

Thanks for any advice!

Regards,
Lee Snover

Have you tried simple green? That stuff seems to take anything off, and
won't harm your paint. It will, of course, take off any wax that might
be on the car.

Clay bar with water.
Simple, won't hurt the wax or the clear coat.

If it's like mammalian excrement, it's acidic and may have eaten into
the paint, which I guess would leave you S.O.L. (hehe.) You could
try WD-40; it's good at removing tar and organic stuff, while being
relatively mile & harmless to paint.

Lee,

Last year I had a similar problem with huge, white bird droppings which had
baked on in the Fl sun while I was away for a few days. White on a black car
is very noticeable but nothing I tried would get it all off. Someone on this
list suggested Simple Green which worked like a charm. It just melted off
the offending offal and I was able to use a hose & light rubbing with an old
T-shirt to tidy it all up. It will remove wax but in my case this was a good
thing as I hadn't waxed ol Roadie in a while. The area where I used Simple
Green was actually shiny-er than any other area on the car and I was forced
to hand wash it repeatedly to match the shine on that spot. I probably
should have just washed the whole car with it and waxed normally but wasn't
sure of the long term affects. A year later that same area still shines
slightly better than the rest of the car but you have to know where to look
to see it. Absolutely no damage to paint.

Hello,

The best way to get everything off your paint is to use paint cleaning clay.
Use the clay to take off all the contaminates off your paint. Either
Meguire's or Griot's paint cleaning clay works great and I use it all the
time to keep my paintreally clean and smooth. You can use the clay with
Meguires Quick Detailer or Griot's Speed Shine. You will be surprised how
well this works,
