Thank you all for the quick and right answers to my question. I still have on snag.

Now the thumbnails don't show tiny versions of the picture but a program icon? Any ideas?

BTW I did use the uninstall software the came with the software. The entire program is weak that is why I removed it.

It is called MGI PhotoSuite V8.1 It can with a Sony digital camera I bought.

They won't show as thumbnails. That's a feature of whatever s/w you were
using before.

The default icon for files whos extension type is registered would be the
default file icon for the program that opens the file.

I'll dispute that Ben, but please take no offense. With Windows 98, ME and
XP (maybe 2000, I never tried) you have always had the option of viewing
files as thumbnails as a feature built into the operating system.

I believe that in most of the OS's this could be accomplished by opening the
folder, going into the "View" menu and selecting "Thumbnails". Why this
isn't working for Henry I don't know...

I stand corrected. It works under 2000 as well.

I think that was the first time I went to view > thumbnails. I always set
it to view > list.

Incidentally, I did it in a folder full of TIFF files, and only one
displayed, so I guess I have nearly the same problem. :)

It only works with file types that are commonly used in your web browser -
primarily gif and jpg. Never tried it with a tiff file.

I suspect it actually uses the IE engine, or part thereof, to display
the thumbs. This is one of the aspects of Win98/Me/etc that
Mickeysloth insists is irretrievably interwoven with IE.

Harry, you may find that reinstalling IE (or upgrading if you've been
meaning to for a while) will restore that functionality.

Cheers,

I fixed this one at work a few weeks ago...it takes a registry hack if you
can't get it to work after you have your desktop as a web page. Found
instructions in 2 mins of looking through a google search...IIRC certain
graphics programs tweak the setting, which is just a long hex string.
